On the exhaust manifold. See picture below. The one in the exhaust manifold will be bank 1 sensor 1, behind the catalytic converter is bank 1 sensor 2 on the image. Here is a guide to help you change the sensor out step by step with diagrams below to show you on your car

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-oxygen-sensor

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

need to know how many O2 sensors are in the car listed above and where bank 1 sensor 2 is located exactly? I'm being told there are three, one 1 before and after the catalytic converter and also one inside the catalytic converter.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Banks 1 and 2 refer to either a V6 or V8 engine. You have an inline 4 cylinder. There are two sensors. As far as the sensors, one is mounted after the catalytic converter and one is mounted on the exhaust manifold.

There isn't one in the catalytic converter.

I attached a picture. Numbers 2 and 3 show the locations of the sensors. Number 2 is the heated O2 sensor which is referred to as number 1 and number 3 in the pic is the heated o2 sensor after the converter. I also attached a second picture and highlighted where the sensor is before the converter. Note that it is at the end of the exhaust manifold right where it would enter the converter.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Thank you very much I believe I understand but to be clear sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter and I have looked down behind the engine (above the spark plugs) and seen an O2 hanging out.. now am I correct by saying that's before catalytic converter and I have to go right under that box "catalytic converter" and there should be another O2 hanging out?

also the reason I said there where three O2 sensors is I went to AutoZone and priced the sensors and they came up with three different sensors (upstream, center stream, and down stream) so I was very concerned.

Welcome back:

There shouldn't be one above the spark plugs. Can you take a picture of what you are seeing and upload it for me?

The one after the catalytic converter is actually in the intermediate pipe. If you look that the converter, you will see where it flanges and bolts to the intermediate pipe. At the beginning of the intermediate.

In the first picture above, sensor 1 is shows or identified with a number 2. The one after the converter is sensor 2.

I attached two pics. In the first one, I circled the two sensors and identified which is sensor 1 and which is 2. In the second pic, I copied and pasted from the removal and replacement page. You will see that it only indicates two.

I have to be honest, I have seen sensors in the converter, but not this vehicle. However, as soon as I say it, I'll be wrong. LOL If I am, the manual is wrong, too. LOL

Please feel free to let me know if I can help.

Car listed above is an LT. I changed the catalytic converter. The original one did not have a sensor connection and the one I installed does have a sensor connection. How can I make them work?

Hello, I'm Danny.]

I suppose you could go to a muffler/exhaust shop and have them weld in a pipe plug.Assuming you do not need 02 sensors for smog reasons.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Good morning,

I attached a picture of the location of the sensor for and a direct link with the part required from advanced auto.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-oxygen-sensor

It is at the back by the firewall in the exhaust manifold. It is a very tight fit.

I would also ask for the socket for removing it as well when you go for the part.

Why are you replacing it?

my check engine light came on the other day, so i took it to Advance to read the code and it is P0131 and it says it's the "Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 DTC Severity 2 of 3: Repair immediately if drivability issues are present. Threat to essential system components if not repaired as soon as possible."

So i called this garage where i took it for another issues a few months back to inquire with them, and they said it's a fairly simple fix and that i could do it myself if i wanted, i just need to locate where cylinder 1 is at so that i can identify bank 1 sensor 1....i know nothing about car repairs so even though it may be a simple fix for some people, i am completely stupid about vehicles just like there are many people who know nothing about how to operate a computer...lol. Thanks for all of your help!

Good evening,

You have 2 sensors. One on the down pipe at the firewall wall side of the motor and one under the car behind the converter.

You should check the supply voltages to all of the oxygen sensors with a meter to ensure they are getting correct power. If one or all of them are without power (or too much), trace wiring and test for shorts/opens in the wiring.

Possible causes of the code are below:

A code P0141 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

-Open or short to ground in the wiring harness

-O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance

-O2 heater element resistance is high

-Internal short or open in the heater element

Note: Typically a failed catalytic converter does not cause this code. You're more likely to see a P0420 code for a failed converter.

Possible Solutions:

-Replace oxygen sensor(s)

-Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors

Hope this helps..

Good afternoon,

I attached pictures of the location for the upstream and downstream O2 sensors.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-an-oxygen-sensor-works

What is the issue?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-oxygen-sensor-02-sensor

I attached the wiring for the O2 sensors. The brown wire is battery voltage for the heaters on each one.

No, there is not.

There are only 2 sensors.

Why do you think there is a third sensor?

Your vehicle has two 02 sensors. One upstrem and one dowmstream.
The upstream 02 sensor is mounted in the exhaust system before the catalytic converter. The downstream is mounted in the exhaust after the catalytic converter.
