Bad catalytic converter

Will a bad O2 sensor cause the catalytic Converter to go bad?

It can. If the computer sees the wrong information from the sensor it could cause it to think it was running lean and add fuel to the mix. The extra fuel would cause the converter to run hot and burn out the catalyst.
