Not switching gears - shifter cable?

Hello, my car was driving fine and I parked and got out for a few minutes and came back and now my car is stuck in park, but the shifter moves very loosely to the other gears and locks by neutral and drive but stays in park.

This sounds like the shift cable broke. here is instructions on how to replace it. Also to help confirm the issue have a helper watch the movement on the transmission selector arm while you move the shifter inside. Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
