noise on deceleration

I did a hard acceleration to test performance, and the car took off nicely, but as soon as I took my foot off the gas, there was a high pitched "singing" noise. It only lasted a moment. Sounded as though it was some kind of flywheel with an unchecked spin.

I should mention, this vehicle is Canadian, and 114,000 on the odometer represents kilometers, not miles. (Works out to about 71,000 miles)

Good afternoon.

I would start by looking at all the belt driven accessories. It may be one of the pulleys or tensioners making the noise.

The other possibility is the turbo making noise when you let off the gas.

Is it possible to upload a video of the noise?

I am considering buying this car, and will return to the dealership this Saturday, October 13/18 to do another test drive- longer this time, to see if the noise can be duplicated. I will try to get this video when it is happening. If it is the turbo making the noise, is that a fault or a usual trait for this mechanism? If it is an easy fix, I will work a deal to have this fixed at the dealership before buying.

If it is the turbo, do not accept delivery without them repairing it before you purchase it. Make them fix it first.

No, it is not an easy fix repairing or replacing the turbo.

I guess my challenge would be to get an honest answer as to what the issue actually is; I have had my share of dealerships refusing to admit obvious problems. My own independent service provider is too far away to assess the condition of the vehicle prior to purchase.

I understand what you are saying but you are asking me to give you an answer based on a noise that cannot be identified. I am here and not there. Anything I say is a guess based on the very or extremely limited information provided.

I need to hear the noise to give you an opinion as I stated before.

If it happened once however, I presume it will happen again. I will ask them to check belts, tensioners etc., for slippage first of all, and see if that resolves the problem. Can they repair the turbo or does it have to be replaced? I will walk away from the deal if they do not want to play nice.

Depending on the failure, yes they can repair.

If it is the turbo, that would be a deal breaker in my eyes.
