I had a leak where the transmission fluid goes into the cooling system. I added stop leak the leak stopped but now I have a clacking in my engine.

Good morning.

Stop leak is never a good idea. It causes more issues and solves nothing. It is a band aid that will fall off and make things worse.

What fluid is leaking? Transmission or coolant?

Did you check the oil?

Yes, I have good oil pressure and it has not overheated. But a closer look underneath while someone pushed on the gas it is coming from the transmission pan. Yes, I have learned my lesson about stop leak now. Could it have plugged up the transmission filter perhaps would that make a noise?

Okay, you would need to replace the pan gasket. I will attach a procedure for you.

That will get most of the sealer out of the system.

Yes, but you said you used stop leak and it stopped?

Can you post a picture of what you see?

I am so sorry I did not have my phone on me. I was out working on the truck, there is that really know where to get a picture it is right up by the radiator underneath the radiator hose where the transmission fluid goes into the cooling system. It is still knocking. I do not know I got to get somebody to look at it and tell me exactly where is coming from now. Thank you very much for answering and I do really appreciate it.

No problem.

Yes, get someone to look at it. A leak will not cause a knock. That is a separate issue.

Let me know what they say.
