No spark coming out of coil to distributor

Thanks for asking for me, there are a bunch of us at the 2CarPros site.

Before we get started, I need to know what the equation is!

Is the stuff in the engine compartment stock stuff?

Has it been monkeyed with?

Can you send some good/well lit pictures of the passenger side/driver's side/top view remove the air cleaner for the pictures.

Can you tell me of any modifications that have been made?

Do you have a voltmeter? ($5.00 at "Harbor Freight"). Timing light? Dwell/ Tachometer (portable type).

I have answered many a CJ on here, I do not know which you may have read (link it to me if you wish). So I kind of do not know what you have picked up or learned, may have been oriented to the other guys issue.

It really does not matter, as I will go above and beyond to aid you. I like to think of CJ people I help as my friends.

All you need to do is keep on replying and actually perform any testing (if possible) Please try to answer my questions too!

First Test

Put it all back together.

Pour two teaspoons of gas into the carburetor, crank on him ("him" a manly, non sissyfied pronoun for a real Jeep!)("ahe" fits a Cherokee better)

Does it spit and sputter or do we just have "Dry over and overs"?

Well it has been restored. I got it from my cousin and he did most the work and it was running perfect.

It is a dry start I know there is gas I already checked.

I tested this plug ground is good, but got nothing from the black and orange and also noting on the black and purple.

Let's turn the key to "on" voltmeter set to 20 volts DC (or whatever your scale shows above 12 volts).

Black voltmeter negative lead onto the battery negative clamp/ post.

Red lead stuck into the coil connector positive side (where red wires go in).

Do you have voltage? What did you get?

Send picture of ignition module, that I can see all of the wires connected to it.

Send picture top of the rear of the valve cover.

Jeep picture would be nice too, everyone could see what we are working on.

Are your fuel lines/fuel filter set up like this (disregard my regulator, pressure gauge)? See pictures below.

Just pike up. I already try the by pass you were taking about with the fuse and wired going to positive side of battery and the other piece of wire to the coil were the resisters wire goes and nothing.

Have you messed with/moved/taken out the distributor since he ran last time?

Is your ignition module bolted down (grounded well)?

12.27 volt on coil side.

Yes bought off him. I helped restore it bout five years ago.

And no I have not remove the distributor.

And yes it is I already tested there is power going too the ECM and is grounded. I already checked.

I even try the by pass I think is called nutter?

Go back to this.

Set voltmeter to "OHMS" touch leads together, you should have continuity.

Distributor side of the connector:

Now touch purple with one lead and orange with the other.

Do we have continuity?

Almost bedtime on the east coast!

Should this wire have twelve volts as well?

On ground it does but the orange and purple bounce back and forth.

Disconnected-no volts on the distributor side of the connector.

Purple and orange are connected inside the distributor (pick-up coil), if there is no continuity, the pick-up coil is probably shot. The "Halls Effect" cannot happen to tell the module when to fire. Replace pickup!

I want to make sure of parts being bad before you rush out and buy parts.

Really stupid question!

Your rotor button is inside the distributor?

It was the one it came with it when I bought the car.

The coil.

Video shows "000".

If you touch the leads together (just the meter looping back on itself) You get "000" also. This is continuity.

If you got "1" the leads are not touching each other, there is no continuity.

If the video is purple to orange getting "000". All is fine with the distributor. We will move on.

Green wire-reconnect it, most likely not an issue, unless the other end is not connected.

Better Picture of the ignition module connectors and wires? Want to see what is hooked up and is not hooked up.

Check the wiring to and from the distributor to the ignition module. Disregard other stuff.
