Transmission had no reverse and had a whining sound?

Was on the highway came to a stop. Accelerated and heard a strange noise. Slowed down at the next turn the first gear wouldn't change until 3,000 RPMs. I pulled over cycled through the gears 1,2,3, and drive worked along with neutral, but reverse did not and had a whining sound.

Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? Is the fluid clean and full?

As far as the issue, can the vehicle be driven in drive and all forward gears work?

No reverse can be caused by a number of things. I attached a list below for you to review. As you will see, there are several. That is why we need to check for codes.
