i changed the alternator and now have no power to main wire on the back. when i took the plug and main wire off the wire touched metal and sparked.

If you could, let me know what color the wire was that shorted. As far as what I think has happened, is either you blew a fuse or the fusible link burnt. I have attached two pics. The first shows a fuse to the alternator. It will be located in the power distribution box under the hood. The second shows the fusible link and how it ties to the alternator. I circled the items in question on both pics.
Check these first and let me know what you find. To test the fusible link, you will need to check it for continuity.

Where is the fusible link located? i can't find it.

It will be located between the starter relay and alternator. It will not stand out. It will look like a typical wire. Follow the wire from the alternator to the relay. Note that the wire color changes color where the link is located.
