Good morning,

Did you test for power to the headlight with a voltmeter or test light?

Did you replace the headlight bulb?

I attached a wiring diagram for you to view.

Hi! Glad I found you!
I just bought a 96 Neon and the guy told me the high beams were stuck on and that it needed a relay switch. I had to pull the fuze out to turn the lights off and put in to turn on as they are not working with the light (pully handle) switch inside.
Now, there are no headlights at all but the orange lights and dash lights work when the fuze is put in (if I leave it in it will drain the battery)
I have been told that I have power to all areas and that my headlights may be burnt out. Thats fine and I have bought new ones but why would the bright lights be stuck on and not be controllable from the inside switch...??? If you can help it would be GREATLY appreciated. Pls email answer!

Thanks

Hi and Thank you for the response. No, I do not have daytime running lights. I have no low beams, its stuck on high beams only. I am having the bulbs replace right now to see if I can at least get high beams back with fuze in.

Thanks

I have a 1995 Plymouth neon with 149,000 miles and I recently had a problem by my car not starting and there was a burning smell inside. We replaced my fuel filter and it runs, but now my headlights won't turn on. I replaced them in March and I put new fuses in the panel. My parking lights come on and my turn signals work, but my headlights won't come on. My owners manual is a piece of junk and it doesn't offer anything. I am by myself and can't pay a mechanic so I do all my work myself. PLEASE HELP!! :x

Sorry for the late reply.

If that smell is electrical, I'd definitely have to check under your dash for any melted wiring, around the fuse box--headlamp switch--everywhere. That could start a fire.

Next check the wiring circuit from head lamp switch. You could check voltage and ground at the head lamp connector.

In the diagram, you can see the head lamp fuse, red wire carries voltage to headlamp switch, when switch is turned on, the green wire carries voltage to dimmer switch. I'd have to check those circuits. Go from there

I realize this is an old post, you probably don't even own this vehicle any longer. In the future, hopefully you don't have any vehicle issues, but, if you do, keep the site in mind, It has more moderators now, and it's free.

Have a good day.

Inspect fuses, if OK suspect faulty headlamp switch.
