When the key is out of the ignition headlights stay on if I don't turn them off.

The BCM controls the headlight function so it sounds like it is going out, to be sure we should do a CAN scan. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is how to change the BCM out in case you get a code for it, you can get a preprogrammed unit by searching Google or Ebay. It looks like the BCM is under the dash on the driver's side. You might want to try a hard system reboot to clear the system cache.
