I replaced this n55 motor. I didn't have to disconnect any of the heater hoses or the hoses at the heat control valve, but of course all the other coolant hoses were removed. I installed everything and all is good. But no heat from air vent.

If when the other engine went out if they used head gasket sealer it could of clogged up the heater core so I would remove the heater hoses and try a flush, also, these car had a problem with the heater control valve for the heating system so I would check that at it as well, here is the location and a video to help go over failure issues as well.

No the coolant was clean. Only the engine oil looked weird. And i added all fresh coolant. I'll remove the heater control valve and see.

I also checked the cap on the coolant expansion tank and found this, do you think it would affect anything?

Yes, it could make the engine overheat. are both heater hoses hot when the engine is warm? If not, I would look at the heater core being clogged or the heater control valve. Also, these cars have a water pump just for the heater.

Don't think they have a water pump for the heater, I will see what the heater control valve does. The car does not overheat at all. Do you have instructions on the heater core? I think dash may have to come out if so.

Yep, the dash will need to come out to fix it, but I would use a garden hose to see if you can unblock it.

There are 3 hoses going into the firewall, all 3 I think come from the heater control valve, how would I know which ones to feed water to see if it comes back out from another hose?

It looks like all three go to the heater core. So, all of them should be hot. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.
