no heat on either heater hose, new thermostat, heater valve on hose new, flushed heater core good, new heater hoses, heater valve open, no carbon detected from radiator, no water in oil, no smoke, new anti freeze why is heater hoses feel like nothing in thew no flow, no heat temp gage reads normal. originaly heater hose sprung bad leak that goes from engine to heater valve. heat worked great previous to leak car only started to overheat when to much water and antifreeze leaked then refilled with water ran cool until water and anti freeze ran low again then did all the work no heat after changed hoses then changed everything else no heat in hoses or car?

If you rev the engine when the engine is warmed up do you feel any heat by touching the heater hoses? Press on the throttle plate under the hood while feeling the heater hoses. What your describing is air in the cooling system.
Water transfers heat extremely well but air does not. Air in the cooling system can also cause overheating but not always. When the engine is cooled down enough check the coolant level inside the radiator and reservoir.
If there is enough coolant and no air in the system that tells me there is a restriction in the heater core.

This guide can help us

Your thermostat could be stuck open allowing coolant to circulate over cooling the engine dropping the temperature to so that is feels luke warm
It could be the water pump is no longer pumping coolant but is accompanied with overheating.
My bet is air in the cooling system or the thermostat is stuck open.

Hi,
I have Honda Accord, 4 door 4 cyl. A few days back, when I turned heater knob to hot, it did turn but only upto half way between hot and cold. What is more interesting is that although air was blowing in, it was not hot at all. As knob was in middle of hot and cold, I would expect air to be warm after some time. But it was always cold.
I checked knob, its fine.

I don't know what fault can cause knob turning only half and same fault cause no heating of air.
My car has right amount of coolant and its temperature is correct also.

My doubts are on:
1. control valve. Is it always open? Where is it located? When does it shuts off? If it is shut, should that also not mean that there is no flow of coolant thought radiator and car will get hot after some time. And my engine's temperature is at correct level.

2. air guiding vents mechanism. My understanding is that the air is guided with vent mechanism to let it pass through either A/C or heater. And this knob is stuck due to vents are stuck which is on the A/c side thats why no heating. My bad luck that at the start of winter, vents are stuck in A/C. Where are the vents located in Accord, 96? Is there any help available on vents mechanism and its repair? I know something related to vacuum is responsible for vents operation, but not much info on this aspect is available to me.

What really is the function of this knob? is it for turning the vents according to the knob position between hot and cold? Is there anything else it does like controlling flow through control valve or anything else??

If anybody know anything about this type of problem with knob or vents mechanism, please share your experience or your opinion on above.
Also can anybody suggest what type of heater I can use inside car to defog windshields as a short term solution.

I would tear in to the heating system. Follow the cable that the knob is connected to and either replace it or find the snag in its free movement and lube or replace.

Heater problem
1996 Honda Accord 4 cyl Automatic 145000 miles

I bought this car this past June and realized when I tested the heat that there were some problems!

If you turn the heat on, it only blows hot air if you have it on circulating (or "max") and on a defrost setting. It can be defrost/floor or just defrost. My two center and biggest vents do not have any air coming out of it. The air itself gets fairly warm but it is not as hot as I would expect coming from a heater. If I change any of the settings (take it off "max" or defrost or both) the air gets colder.

I have replaced the thermostat once, a month ago or so and it was piping hot the first time I tested it out. Now it is doing this. Since winter is looming I'll need to get it fixed, I am just trying to geta feel for how much it will cost and how much labor is involved. Thanks for your help!

Hi profusely, Check the air mix door and heater valve cable adjustment. If they are not correctly adjusted, the heater would not work well. Check the heater valve solenoid and vacumn hoses as well.

The engine looks like rust is sprayed all over it. It had to be done before I got it but why after all this time,..what should I do. I am limited on funds and need a car.and heat too its cold out threre!HELP!!

Do you have any leak whatsoever if not could be the radiator and heater core clogged up and water pump malfunctioning/defective.

no water on floor boards it is not steaming, it is running good. It still creeps over mid line for temperature, but it goes down and can be knocked down by revving in park. mechanic felt the hose and could feel movement when engine is revved. What do you think about having it flushed? is there any way you keep it from gumming up these parts? It did not plug up when I flushed it after purchase. Should I have them drain it, fill it with water and the flush it?

Have them flush it thoroughly and make sure they bleed it right.

check the heater core is not blocked ..put a hose pipe to the heater core inlet pipe .. remove hose from outlet pipe and run water through the core ... replace hoses .. refill coolant system taking care not to get air in the system .. and retest heaters ?? re-post if you need more info ?

If there's no hot air coming out-check the thermostat and heater core if okay could be a heater control valve, air mix/blend/mode problems, vacuum/actuator, and HVAC control module.

Change thermostat

If not that check to see if the top radiator hose is not collapsing closing down ample water supply to heat the core. Should change water hose if not been changed since new, in any case'

Lastly a vacuum line is clogged or disconnected.

I have lost all heat/ AC. My heating fan sounds like a jet engine. The heat is running only when I turn the knob to 4. and it is very low setting. What could be the problem?

Hi autuumsky,

The abnormal noise from the fan motor could be due to foreign matter stuck in the blower housing or a bad fan motor.

Low heat can be due to coolant fault. Check if both heater hoses to heater core are hot. If only 1 is hot, either the heater core or the coolant passage is clogged or the heater control valve is not opening properly. Check if the vacumn hose is dislodged or if the solenoid is working.

I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX. The problem I'm experiencing is that the heater will not work. There is air blowing and I my A/C worked this summer. I've heard that it could be my heater control valve. Do anyone know where this is located and how hard it would be to install it? Could this be what's causing my problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

I've heard that it could be my heater control valve.

It should be where the heater hoses at-try manually operating it and see what happens. also check your coolant level and for a clogged-up hose.
