No crank no start when key turned

Battery good. car will not start. no noise at all when key turned on. No clinks, nothing.
dash and brake lights work. Key turns in cylinder.
when ignition wires jumped near ignition switch, car starts and runs but shuts right off..
I did not try a new ignition switch..does the car key have to be in on position when jumping the ignition wires to continue to run? Or should it keep running once you jump ignition wires..
I don't know what colored wires were jumped. can't reach starter relay way up under dash in row 3.
Any help appreciated. i want to put a new ignition switch (electrical side only) not cylinder. And then hook up ignition switch (electrical side) terminal plug to new ignition switch, then try to start with screwdriver.
Any help appreciated.

Here are the directions for replacing the switch. I'm not sure what you are jumping to start it. If you need a wiring schematic for a specific component, let me know.

IGNITION SWITCH
Ignition Switch

Removal

- Remove the steering column trim.

- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - from ignition/starter switch - 1 -.

- Insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder and the key to the "Run" position.

Kostal

- Free up the hole - 2 - under the seal - 3 -.

- Remove the cover - 1 - in the direction of the - arrow - with a small screwdriver.

- Release the ignition switch with two small screwdrivers - arrows -.

- Pull out ignition/starter switch - 1 - from steering lock housing.

Installation

- Insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder and the key to the "Run" position.

- Insert ignition/starter switch into steering lock housing until it engages audibly.

Note: Key must be located in Drive position.

Key positions of lock cylinder:

1 Position Off
2 Position Run
3 Position Start

- Turn the ignition key to the "Stop" position.

- Install all the components in reverse order of removal.

why do you think it is the ignition switch? I want to put just the electrical side of switch in (white plastic)..then turn it with screwdriver before inserting electrical switch into metal cylinder housing. Do i need to have the key in run? Start when i am turning the switch electrical side on with screwdriver into slot in switch?

I'm a bit confused. The switch itself is attached to the key cylinder. That is what the directions were for. So, I'm not sure what it is you are trying to replace. As far as your question, if you figured out which wires cause the starter to engage, then yes, the ignition switch would need to be in the run position for the engine to run.
