No crank no start?

Replaced a fuel pressure regulator. Started the truck and shut it down. Went to start it again and it just made a clunk noise. Replaced the starter and now it will crank 10-15 Revo then stops and acts like it's out of power. Give it an hour or so and ya get 10 revos. Jumped the starter solenoid and it just clunks. Could it need to be shimed?

Hi,

It could indicate an adjustment issue. However, if it clicks at the starter, first, make sure the battery terminals are clean, tight, and free of corrosion. A weak connection can cause this.

Next, if it is a shim issue, I would suspect the issue to happen all the time. Since it was working, that leads me to think it is a connection issue. In addition to the battery terminals, make sure the ground that runs to the engine block from the battery is tight, clean, and free of damage.

I attached the wiring schematic below for the starter circuit so that you would have a reference. Try switching the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood with a different one in the box having the same part number to see if that makes a difference. Additionally, confirm the connector pins for the relay are in good condition.
