No crank

The way this ignition system works is the key sends a signal to the SKIS (immobilizer) which confirms it is the correct key. The SKIS then sends the message to the PCM that tell it that it is ok to start the engine.

So when you say you bypassed the system it makes sense that all it did was crank. Does your theft light turn off or not when you cranking the engine?

So it's funny you say that because I found the guts to the key laying on the floor board they must of fell out while I was trying to start the car. the reason they fell out is my girlfriend tried to put a key ring in place of the tab that had broken off the key. only thing is that key never has worked since I got it. never even had a battery in it in fact. so I never ruled it into play because I assumed it was I guess dormant I thought.

What do you mean it has never worked? It has started the vehicle but the buttons on the key didn't work? You have the FOBIK pictured, correct?

If so, the buttons are a different system then the SKIS system. This system is only used by the WCM/SKREEM module to send the signal to the PCM that the key is valid. The buttons on the key are part of the passive entry system.

Your vehicle will not start if the SKIS system does not authorized that there is a programmed key in the ignition. This happens by radio frequency and no input from you. This means once the key is close enough to the module, it validates it and then allows the engine to start.

Correct, it is that key fob and yes it has started the car up just fine without me ever putting a battery in it due to the tabs were missing that hold it in place. so I just manually unlocked the door and then after I switched the ignition out everything but the tumbler. I was cleaning up the tools and I found what looked like the guts to the key. so I opened the key up and sure, it was not there.

So define for me what you replaced in the ignition. I understand not the tumbler but what else?

The other thing I am wondering is if you put it in theft mode when you tried to bypass the ignition. Does the theft light go out or stay on?
