No third gear

Transmission has all gears including overdrive, but not third.
I can wind up in second and let off and it will shift into overdrive. When it down shifts on applying throttle or going up hill when in overdrive it just revs up and there is nothing there. Have to slow and put it in second.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a governor pressure sensor/solenoid that is not working right. here is the location so you can change them out to see what happens. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

I neglected to say it was 4wd if it makes any difference because the transmission is probably the same.

Yes they are the same, I would use new parts instead of rebuilt btw. Let me know what happens please.
