My question is, the car would not come out of second gear once it did second gear seemed to become a neutral gear. Could it be the bushings that went bad? It all started when trying to shift from second to third. The car would not come out of second no matter how hard I tried. After about thirty minutes attempting to drive in second it finally came free, and then when attempting to access second gear it would not engage.

Is this a manual transmission? Have you checked the linkage to the transmission? Do the other gears work?

Yes it is a five speed manual. Have not checked the linkage and yes the rest of the gears work. Easiest way to access the linkage to check it out.

You should be able to see where it attaches under the hood. After that, you will need to get under the vehicle.

every time it goes to shift it hits into neutral and rpm's go up and down until it hits gear. I had the codes read at AutoZone and they informed me to dry out my spark plugs they must have had water in them. However, when I pulled the wire on the furthest passenger side plug it was full of about an inch deep of oil. I drained it out but it fills back up when I drive it. I cannot figure out what is going on with it.

The leak is from a leaking valve cover gasket. However, it has nothing to do with the transmission. Also, AZ usually does not have the right type of scanner to read transmission codes.

Check the general things. Make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. If it is, you need to confirm with AZ that their scanner reads transmission codes. If it does not you need to have it checked by a tech that has the right tools. It could be several things causing the problem. It could deal with a shift solenoid, converter, throttle position sensor, governor.

A few days ago car took a few seconds to go into reverse and this problem lasted until today when it worked fine. Today I was driving down the freeway at 65 miles a hour. Transmission felt like it down shifted. Then it stoped pulling all together. I costed off the road. Checked transmission fluid. It was full and clear. In a fiw minutes I started the car and was able to move it a few blocks before it stoped pulling again. Transmission has been serviced regulary and I had no problems before. Is there a fix or do I need a new transmission?

Car tries to move. But it does not go far before it will not move.
Transmission shop wanted $1025.00 to fix it. So I got rid of the car. I had a ford that did this years ago. But it also smoked, and would be low on transmission fluid. Even though it did not leak. It was a small valve on the outside of the transmission that replaced very easily with a half inch wrench.

Hi:
It could be solenoid in the transmission. Has the check engine light on? Also, when placing it in gear, does it pull at all or is it like neutral?

My car starts but not shifting in gear. It has 83,000 miles. What do you think it could be?

The brake shift interlock, an electrical switch on the brake pedal. Or the fuse for it.
