Hi hocsinh,

Without AC on how to get cool air? I am a confused.

Check for compressor operations with AC on.

Check positioning of venting system.

Check heater control cable adjustment. This guide will help

Hi hocsinh,

If there is noise from the passenger side, could be the expansion valve.

Get a pressure test on the system and let us know the readings.

Another mechanic checked and told me the leak is coming from the AC evaporator and it would cost $690 to fix it.

I am not sure who is to believe?

any suggestion?

thanks!

Hi hocsinh,

Sorry I can't help you about the price. but the pipe repair should cost less.

Since 2 person have told you 2 different possibilities, you might need a 3rd opinion.

Replace the high pressure line yourself. Buy a new line or go to junk yard and get one and charge the system up before spending lots of money.

My air conditioning just stopped working, when I press the AC nothing happens, before I could immediately hear the compressor turn on. I could not find a fuse in the under dash fuse box, is there another fuse box? Is the AC not working?

Engine compartment, is where another fuse box would be located?

Also even if the system needed charging would the compressor still turn on but just blow warm air?

Box under hood probably near batt.
System has low pressure cutout switch so comp. will not run when system is low to prevent damage to comp.

Your vehicle does not have a filter. Most likely mold in evaporator or a little critter got in intake vent. see diagram take motor out spray Febreeze and water bleach solution.

I have a 2000 Xterra and air just quit working. Compressor wouldn't come on and light was coming on. The 4 wire plug on top of bottle on pass side, I pulled it out and put back in an tried to get plug out on top of compressor but couldnt get it come out. I tried it again and it started working. Check all your plugs, one of them might not be getting connection.

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra, 2WD, V6 with about 89,000 miles. The air conditioner works about half of the time. When it works, it is ice cold. When it doesn't, it blows warm air. So I know it is not a freon leak. It is pretty much random when it works and when it doesn't, although I believe it works more often when moving then when stopped. However, it will often go warm when driving, and it will sometimes blow ice cold when stopped. It doesn't matter whether it is really hot or cool outside. Toggling the a/c switch doesn't really help either. Turning the A/c off, waiting a few minutes, and turning it back on works sometimes, and sometimes not. Basically, it is pretty random when it does and does not work. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thank you.

In addition to the facts I described, I forgot to mention that often times the a/c will work for like 10 minutes straight, then stop for a few minutes, and then start working again, without touching the a/c button or fan selection switch. And vice versa--sometimes I will turn it on and it won't work, and then all of a sudden cold air starts coming out without touching anything. I figured that might rule out the switch being the problem.

If you ran a hit wire to fuse and it worked, then it sounds like the hot wire on fuse is not hot.

If the freon pressures are good then it could be a pressure switch that is going bad.Really needs to be looked at when the A/C isnt working to see what is going on.Many different things are possible.

If you move the wire at the compressor it could be the clutch coil is bad FYI. Here is a guide that can help find out what is wrong with the system.

I pulled four wire plug out on top of bottle and tried to unplug the plug at compressor and couldn't get it out, so I put four wire plug back in and cranked it and turned on A/C and it was working good and still is.

Air Conditioning problem
2000 Nissan Xterra 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
The A/C cools good when the outside air is cool and when the engine is run for the first time. After it has been shut off, the A/C doesn't cool during hot weather. I checked the low side pressure with one of those R-134 cans with the gauge and it's running at 60psi at idling speed. The pressure goes down to about 40psi with increased RPM's. Sometimes after driving for a long period, the air might begin to cool off. That's about it. Please help.

Hi Charles Owens,

It could be expansion valve, excessive refrigerant or compressor.

Check high pressure for abnormality.
