I removed the old rear seal and as I started to install the new one, I noticed the lip on the end of the crank was about 1/4 inch larger than the surface that the seal rests on. I tried forcing the seal over this lip and damaged the new seal. I know there must be a reasonable answer, but I can't find it. Please help! I am stumped.....

Place the seal upon the crank lube well first then with a .006 or so feeler run the feeler between the seal lip and crank while pushing it on over lip. Then use appropiate seal driver and your home.
Let me know what happens
