I went to two different auto mechanics referred by a friend for a break job on my 1997 Nissan Sentra gxe. 1.6.. One was much further away from my house, he explained that I would have to get the front and back break pads, and rotors replaced, cost 500.00 for everything. The other mechanic closer to my house, explained that I only needed break pads, and rotors on the front, and that the back breaks were disk breaks so it was not necessary to do anything to the back. I went with the second mechanic closes to my house, he asked that I purchase the breaks, and rotors which I did. They were I think the weaver brand. After he put the break pads on with the rotor I noticed a constant sqeaking noise, I have since been involved in auto accident where I ran into the back of a vehicle. The vehicle in front of me made a sudden stop, I pressed the breaks and my vehicle ran into the back of him. It was like the breaks were not working. My god, I probably could have been killed if this were different scenario, where my breaks were not working. I was not hurt, nor the driver of the other car, but my car is not drivable. I beleive this 2 nd mechanic is responsible for the repairs to my car, according to the police, if I would have died they would be looking for him anyway. Here is my two fold question. First, I am confused about if I needed not only break pads, and rotors for the front, but for the back as well? and how should I handle this situation with this second mechanic? I want to tow the car to another licensed mechanic, see what the full mechanical damage is on the engine as well as the whole breaking system, so I have something to present to the original mechanic.

If you have antilocking brake system you have disc/rotor all around.

No ABS its regular hydraulic system which has 2 front disc and rotors and for the back 2 drums/brake shoes.
