Service station advises rear struts blown

2000 Nissan Sentra, 58.5K miles.

I took car in for an oil change and tire rotation. They advised me the rear struts were blown. $300 for parts and labor. I haven't had the repair done yet.

My question is is it worth changing them (I'm assuming they are not making it up, they have been trustworthy thus far) now even though there are no signs of a problem as far as performance goes? I see no leakage and there is no "bounce" to the rear when going over a bump or when testing it by pushing down on the rear. There really is zero recoil and no oscillation after putting a bounce to it.

There does seem to be some uneven wear on the tires, though.

I don't know much about cars, I have to confess. That's why I'm asking.

I am truley glad you asked. We get incentives from strut and shock companies that want us to push their products. I just can't if there is no need.

If this company has been straight, talk to the owner and ask him to show you why they are blown. Even a good honest guy can make a bad decision in recommending for various reasons. So, I'm not saying lose faith in them, just have them prove your doubts.

I'm inclined to think you don't need them at this point based on your post.
