The transmission fluid was changed in my car at lower mileage intervals below 100K miles however, hasn't been changed recently. Should I change the transmission fluid at this point or would that do more damage then it's worth (or should I just add additional transmission fluid as needed, when low, without actually changing the fluid)?

I would change it. I change mine every year regardless of mileage. I now have 239K miles on my 95 B14 Sentra. Engine and tranny still run strong.
