Brake light switch

Two weeks ago I noticed that the brake lights on my 1994 Nissan Sentra XE were on, even though the car was off and the key removed from the ignition; I also found pieces of black rubber on the driver-side floor. I learned that the pieces were in fact the brake pedal stopper and so I bought a replacement stopper from a Nissan dealer. I installed the replacement stopper (which is now a clear rubber) and thought the problem was solved until today, when I noticed yet another black stopper in pieces on the driver-side floor. The car is working fine but I am anxious to know exactly where this particular stopper (which is identical in size to the one that I replaced at the brake switch) is from. Can you help with some advice? Much thanks.

I am trying to replace my switch clip and got a clear rubber one as well. Where does it go? I found 2 different places it could fit and I am not sure which one it goes in to.

Fixed both "rubber pedal stopper" problems myself at a cost of $3 apiece from the local Nissan dealership; the old stoppers were black, the new ones are clear. They are inserted BENEATH the brake light and cruise control switch PLATE (see photos). Just follow the brake pedal up from the floor and you'll find them.

One other question. The space there is really small. Did you release your brake pedal in some way?

Sorry for not responding sooner (out of town). By far the easiest way to install the stopper is to let the brake pedal do the work for you.

1) Depress the brake pedal as far as it will go to the floor. (If you're a gal you might want to have a friend do this while you're installing the stopper - it takes a bit of upper body strength to do both things at the same time). This will clear a space for you to position the stopper in place.

2) With the stopper in place SLOWLY release the brake pedal onto it, letting the force of the pedal push the stopper through the hole.

The hardest part for me was the weird contortions I had to go through in order to reach the area; there's not a whole lot of room down there!
