I've owned the car for the last 120000 miles put on it and kept up with all regular maintenance. The engine was faltering a bit so I started trouble shooting so far I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, Air Filter, Mass Airflow Sensor, changed the oil, checked fuel pressure, checked cylinder pressure, checked O2 sensors, and even took it to a dealership to have a complete diagnostic run. The problem still persists. The falter is at about 1,500 rpm I would say making it self apparent on initial take off and while cruising at around 50 mph. Any pointers.

Hi Tijake86,

If your car is equipped with EGR, unplug the vacumn hose and drive the car try to see if you get the problem. The check engine light will come on but nothing to worry about.

Disconnecting the EGR completely stops the problem. But without the EGR aren't the pistons in serious danger of burning up.

Hi Tijake86,

That was to check what causes the problem. You won't burn the pistons, but you will fail the emission.

Now that you know, you should try to find out whether the EGR valve or its controlling solenoid is at fault.

Note : An out of adjustment TPS can cause that.

I checked the EGR valve and it was fine. The TPS sensor is also fine. Thanks for the help though.
