Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic n/a miles

The battery light and brake light started to flicker and then a ticking sound is heard during park or car in drive, w/ brake pressed down. Once the brake is released and accelerating, the ticking sounds goes away and the lights dont flicker.
The battery and the fuses were just replaced (thinking the battery was bad). But now, the sound & lights are worse and the car is having a hard time starting (unable to drive).

Please advise, is this an alternator issue (as someone has mentioned)? Or is there something simple that can be done?

Other than this, the car has been running fine w/ a tune up less than 3 month prior to the ticking and flickering lights.

Before ruling the alternator, check the tension of the alternator belt. If the tension is satisfactory, take the car to an auto parts store so they can test the electrical system (battery, starter, and alternator). Then you will know which one to replace.

I believe your alternator is on the way out. It is running but not strong enough. You have been using the battery power in recent times, so every time you step on the brake pedal (using more electricity), the light flickers and resistance noise is heard.

I have the same problem. Was it the alternator or something else?
