Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1.Fuel pressure not within specs.Can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2.Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3.Leaking injectors.
4.Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5.Restricted air intake system.

I have managed to dwnload a p10 manual

Have had another look at the problems and
The engine check light is NOT on.
have done checks the book specifies they seem to check out (egr etc:
engine seems to gradually start hunting and tries to leap forward.
Have also checked air cleaner
vaccume lines for leaks
One thing I have not checked is the 02 sensor
All of the checks have been done manually
