Engine Performance problem
1999 Nissan Pathfinder 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder V6 2x2 with 125,000 miles and a very strange acceleration problem. While driving the car suddenly looses all power and the RPMs drop drastically to about 1,000RPM. If I floor the accelerator pedal, the engine runs normal until it gets to 1,800RPM. Once the engine gets over 1,800RPM it starts to surge between 1,800 and 2,200RPM. When it is doing this, you cannot get it to go above about 2,200RPM no matter how hard you depress the pedal.
I am fairly certain it is an electrical problem because I can “fix” it by shutting the car off and starting it right back up. I also am fairly certain the problem is within the engine and not part of the other drive train components because I am able to put the car into Park or Neutral when it is acting up and I still cannot get it to rev smoothly above 1,800RPM.
The problem is intermittent; sometimes it happens two or three times a day (over the course of my 70 mile round trip commute) and sometimes it won’t happen for four days. I am not getting any check engine codes or idiot lights when the problem occurs so it seems that the car itself doesn’t even know what is going on. So far I have replaced the MAF sensor, cleaned out my Throttle Body, did a tune-up, and replaced the fuel filter but the problem persists. I was going to try to swap out the TPS, but I figured I would ask for assistance from the experts. Any thoughts?
