I had the gaskets replaced on the engine a few
weeks ago because they were leaking. Now it is
smoking from the rear of the engine compartment on the opposite side. It smelled like antifreeze but the
truck wasn't running hot and I didn't notice any
other problem other than the smoke. What could it be?

Hi there,

You should get a cooling system pressure test done to check for external coolant leaks, get the repairer to inspect this as they should off made sure all hoses were serviceable when the head was done.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I should also mention I haven't had a problem since the gaskets were replaced, and there was no leakage on the tow truck after being towed 20+ miles.

Not sure if that matters or if it can help eliminate something...

Just trying to get an idea of how much it's going to cost me when they open up Friday.

Hi there,

This is to hard to tell until it is inspected, but the pressure test will be the first thing they should do.

Thanks for the fast response. That's the first thing I'll have them do when they open after the holiday. I'll post the results so others can benefit...

It turns out a heater hose broke causing coolant to spill onto the engine which caused the smoke. A little difficult to get to in order to fix it, but shouldn't be all that expensive.

Thanks for the help!
