1994 Nissan Pathfinder replacing ignition lock

I have an ongoing problem with my ignition. When I turn the key I have to search for a "sweet spot" to get my Pathfinder to start. If I go past it, I have to ease it back (not even 1/16th of an inch) until I hit it, then it starts. Last year I had the switch replaced but this didn't help. How hard would it be for me to change the ignition lock myself. Should I just take it to the dealer? Funds a limited just now as I'm unemployed. Thanks.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the steering wheel and the column covers.
Drill out the shear bolts holding the lock assembly in place and remove the conventional bolts.
Disconnect the wiring from the switch and remove the assembly.
Unscrew the retaining bolts in the lock cylinder and separate the switch from the lock.


To install:

Connect the switch to the lock cylinder and tighten the retaining screws evenly.
Make sure that the hole in the column and the mating part of the lock cylinder are aligned. Install new shear bolts and break off their heads.
Connect the electrical lead to the switch and then install the column covers.
Install the steering wheel and connect the battery cable.
