Took vehicle in for alignment and they were unable to do it saying the right front outer tie rod with sleeve needed to be replaced first. I am not a trained mechanic but do a lot of small things myself. Is this a job best left to a professional or can a reasonably adept amateur handle it?

Hi Dale Smyth,

Thank you for the donation.

Replacement of the tie-rod end is rather straight forward but you would need a ball joint remover to disconnect it from the knuckle.

Mark the initial position of the tie-rod end lock nut by counting the number of threads left and when installing, get it seated as close to original position as possible.
