Engine failing

Hey, i have Nissan Colt, 1988, 1.8L V4,174000 miles on it.

We do not know if it had a throttle body or not, but it idle's really low. so we put in just a piece of wood to keep up the idling, but as soon as we kick it into any driving gear the engine drops in its RPM's and stalls. What can we do?

Check the ignition timing before you do below

Disconnect the throttle position sensor-find the idle air control valve and adjust it till you hit 750rpm.

if it is a tbi ...the MAF is build within.use a volt meter...set it up max & min...catch it while it fall off....seen quite a bit of those problem...lets not 4get that vac leak is #1 idle stall offender
