Shakes or Wobbles problem

It's a 1995 K 11 Nissan Micra. I've had it for 6 years and it's never had any real trouble (CV joints went but were easily fixed) but last night driving home it started to have the most terrible front end shudder, like I'm talking really bad, it wasn't coming through the steering, wasn't affected by tyre pressure, and it was only happening when the engine was under load - like if I took my foot off the accelerator it stopped and started again when I put my foot back down, it was not affected by how fast/slow the car was going. There was no real consistency in it, it would stop,start,stop,start etc.
Please help..
