i took my truck for emissions and it did not pass.it said it is the NOx failures.but how can i tell if its the egr valve or the catalytic converter or something else

If the EGR valve failed to reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen the combustion temperature will rise and cause detonation/pinging-Clean out the EGR valve and passages
