1989 Other Nissan Models 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Please Help!! I live on an Island so it is difficult for me to get good mechanical advice. I purchased a starter motor from an auto electrician for my 1989 nissan nomad (Hitachi STR 12volt 9T part number: ASHI3023) and my mechanic tells me it's the wrong size, I called back the auto electrican who assure's me it is the right one for a 1989 nissan nomad. Who is right?!
