I recently purchased a used 2004 nissan maxima se Front wheel drive for 10,000 what a great price "117,000 miles" lol. But anyway i am only getting 14.8 miles per gallon and i should be recieving 20. This thing burns like and Hummer and i dont no diddly about cars. Is this something i have to go to the dealer and get ripped off to fix or does anyone have suggestions on were i should start with fixing this problem. 14.8 miles per gallon wow.

There are many factors with fuel mileage. Simple things like proper air pressure in tires and easy acceleration from stops are important. I would pull a spark plug and check the gap and condition of it.

Thses are extreme examples, but buy a new set of NGK or Auto lite plugs and look at what they are like new for a comparison.

Check your air filter for black marks, try replacing your fuel filter and just to double check, I would recommend starting the car and walking to the rear. Listen by the gas tank for a whistle sound. AT that many mile so fast it is possible your fuel pump may be going out.

I'n not so sure on the fuel side of it. The engine woould run rough at best from low pressure. The system is designed to work at a high pressure for the injectors to fire properly.
