I have 1996/Nissan Maxima/GLE/V6/3.0 Automatic Transmission/100,000 mileage.

Recently I am getting problem with My vehicle code error "P0500" (Vehicle Speed Sensor). First time my mechanic got in his meter codes are P0500 and P0600. At that time he changed my Vehicle speed sensor with new VSS .

After I drove my car for 3 days again I got check engine light. My mechanic checked again on his meter and got P0500 again. He said he will find out solution. But He did not get a solution.

Please Auto Professionals help me on this.

When he was checked my car, meter has reading 1,700 RPM's and 0 MPH.

Good afternoon,

The 500 is for the speedometer circuit. Since you replaced the sensor, the next step is get a scan tool and see if the ECM is seeing vehicle speed. If it is, the cluster is the issue or the wiring to the cluster. If it is not seeing the signal, then you have a wiring issue from the sensor up to the cluster.

Without Scan Tools
4) Start engine and rise engine speed to more than 1,000 rpm at once.
5) Run engine for at least 10 seconds at idle speed.
6) Run engine for at least 10 seconds at 2,000 rpm.
7) Set selector lever in "D" position and run engine for at least 10 seconds at idle speed (with vehicle stopped).
8) Drive vehicle at 12 to 20 km/h (7 to 12 MPH) for at least 10 seconds in "D" position.
9) Turn ignition switch "OFF", wait at least 5 seconds and then turn "ON".
10) Perform "Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-diagnostic results)" with ECM.
