2000 Nissan Maxima what is the deal with 8year 80 k federa

i think i need to replace the cinverters on my nissan, my got person told me to call nissan to see if could be covered by the 8 80- warrenty, i called nissan the date the car was sold was may 28,2000 dose that mean i am screwed as far a nissan delership fixing the things on there dime, i am second owner, should i call them back ask them to godwill them to me, where can i read more about that federal law?
