2000 Nissan Maxima Starter replacement - engine response pr

The only thing in close vicinity is the speed sensor. BUt before we rule the VSS, let's do this diagnostic to see if you have any codes in the TCM. TCM SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NOTE: Flash codes are also referred to by manufacturer as Judgement Flickers. Preparation (I30 & Maxima) 1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect vacuum pump to throttle opener and apply 7.48 in. Hg vacuum. 2. Disconnect throttle position switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check continuity of closed throttle position switch. Continuity should exist. See Fig. 15 . If continuity exists, see DIAGNOSTIC/JUDGMENT PROCEDURE . If continuity does not exist, check throttle opener and closed throttle position switch. Then increase vacuum until closed throttle position switch shows continuity. Diagnostic Procedure 1. Ensure selector lever is in "P" position. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. O/D OFF indicator light should illuminate for about 2 seconds. If O/D OFF indicator light does not illuminate, go to O/D OFF INDICATOR LIGHT under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. Go to next step. 2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then to ACC position. Move selector lever from "P" to "D" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. Depress and hold O/D switch in OFF position (O/D OFF indicator light on). Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then return ignition switch to ON position. Release O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light off). Wait 2 seconds, then go to next step. 3. Move selector lever to "2" position. Depress and release O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light on). Depress and hold O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light off) until directed to release. Go to next step. 4. Move selector lever to "1" position, then release O/D switch. Depress and release O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light on). Depress and release O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light off). Depress and hold O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light on) until directed to release. Go to next step. 5. Depress accelerator pedal fully (WOT) and release. Release O/D switch (O/D OFF indicator light to flash on and off). Record O/D OFF indicator light flashes. Where LONG light flash appears in flash sequence (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.) indicates code. See Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 . Figure 3

For your Diagnostic Procedure, Items 3 & 4. How long do you have to wait to be "directed to release" O/D button to go to next step. I have waited 12 minutes with no direction. And I assume you shift to 1 before releasing O/D swith.

Vehicle is home and I want to run test as repair shop found no codes.

It usually takes about 5-10 seconds (roughly) for it to tell you to release. The entire procedure takes less than 2 minutes. If it doesn't, then you may have missed a step or you may have internal fault in your TCM.

Zackman - FYI problem was Air Flow Meter, would not give a fault code, only failed on hard throttle, tech had to ride with driver to see fault happen. Dealer doesn't know why it would not put off a code. Car runs great.
