1999 Nissan Maxima Compressor Noise

The a/c works fine. When the ac is off the compressor make a whinning almost grinding noise. When you turn it on the noise stops. It cools and works great just noisey when not on.

Couldl be aproblem with theclutch hub bearing. Try removing the belt and spinning teh clutch hub to see if it feels rough, If so you may need a new one

Should be replaceable, but it requires special pullers to get the a/c clutch off the comp
