1997 Nissan Maxima Air Bag Ticking

We got a new battery for the car and the car continues to die. The air bag light comes on and there is a ticking sound from the pasenger air bag area. The car died and after a boost, it continued to die. They said the alternator was bad. Can that cause the air bag light to go on and the ticking sound?

normally no alternator output can be checked at the battery with a multimeter set on 20vdc if voltage is between 13.5 to 14.4 alternator is good for the air bag has the vehicle been hit? if not go to the dealer hate to say that but they are normally the only ones qualified to play with the air bag systems.
