2003 Nissan Frontier Fuel Pump Vs. Timing belt problem

Last night I was driving home from work. With 3/4 of a tank of gas a recently serviced truck. As I was pulling into my drive my truck died (almost like I had stalled it) no noise no nothing it just stopped running. I gave it a minute it turned over and it started fine but ran lik it was starving for fuel, press on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. I got out and pushed it out of my neighbors way, tried to strat it again. it ran and idled ok for a few seconds then died. Could this be a fuel pump/relay/fuse/filter issue or does it sound like a timing belt issue?

Thank you for the donation.

It should not be any fault with the timing belt as it can be started.

A fuel problem might be more likely but without any diagnostics, it would be impossible to confirm what is causing it.

Did the Check Engine Light stay ON while engine is running?

Did you try to retrieve for trouble codes?

The check engine light did not come on while it was running and I didn't have any way to retrieve codes. When I get home this afternoon I will listen to hear if the fuel pump is working when I turn the key on, check the fuel pump relay and change out the fuel filter. hopefully that will get me going so i can get to the local garage.

If you are able to start, the fuel pump should be working, only problem it might stop after the initial priming.

Let me know what you find and hopefully we can get someting to start with.

The results are in and the truck is in the shop. They tell me it is a bad fuel pump. so the gas tank has to be lowered and fuel pump replaced. in addition they will change the fuel pump relay. They also found in the diagnostic that the mass air flow sensor was broken off and not functioning. So the total with all the repairs is 1700 including all parts, labor, taxes oh and the tow bill.

Too bad the problem is that costly.

I was wondering if they had misdiagnosed and incurred additional cost for you. A bad MAF would cause the symptoms described.
