Nissan Altima GXE 1998, temperature gauge fluctuation

The temperature gauge fluctuate when engine idle (~1000 rpm) or drive slowly after warming up (1-2 mile driving at summer). The temperature gauge drop down to bottom at high rpm whenever idle or running.

When was the last time the thermostat was changed?

I have no idea about the changing. This used car was transfered to me from my friend last year, no repair record available. Your suggest is changing the thermostat?

Try a new thermostat for your model.

I am going to change the thermostat and see what is going on. I was wondering if thermosensor also need to be changed?
