Hello,

I had an alarm installed through the dealer when I purchased my 2005 Nissan Altima. I stopped using the alarm about a year ago, therefore do not keep the remote with me to disarm. Well, I replaced my battery last night and of course the alarm is now going off and I an unable to disarm it because I cant find the remote. I have read that there might be a "kill switch" underneath the dashboard. There is a black button under the dash, drivers side which I have no idea what it does, so I'm thinking this might be the answer? If so, what are the steps to disarm? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Nkiankhooy,

If this is an aftermarket alarm you will need to remove it there might not be a switch to bypass it. If it is a factory alarm let try to reset it by following this guide.

Please run down this guide and report back.

I believe the button is the "kill switch". So if the alarm is going off, I can do as you said and it will temporarily disable correct?

The kill switch is not to disable the alarm but only to disarm it. Any disconnection of the power source would rearm the alarm once again.

Yes, when the alarm has been triggered due to reconnecting the battery, the procedures that I mentioned would disarm it.

Alarm goes off while parked in garage. Disconnected horn relay since it also happened during the day. Obviously , meant I would have to drive without horn. Could not locate relay for anti theft . Where is it located.?.

You may have disconnected the horn but the security system would still be triggerred and this can drain the battery.

Check door switches and hood switch. One could be out of adjustment.

Try disconnecting the alarm control module to test if it works.

If the vehicle has a factory alarm and a chip in the key, yes, the system needs reset.

Hi nbaotoeb,

Thank you for the donation.

Seems the alarm and horn reminder mode has been switch to hazard flashes only without the horns working.

Try this and see if it works.

Press both the lock and unlock button simultaneously for more than 2 seconds and see if the system is switched back.
