My mechanic here in Sacramento, CA has changed the oil in the Altima to a higher quality synthetic in an attempt to stop the loss of oil. There is no oil stain under the car, and there is no smoke coming out of the tailpipe, but the engine is consuming oil somewhere, somehow. The mechanic suggested finding an appropriate additive that might lubicate the seals better and stop the consumtion of oil. The car has performed excellently up to this point. Any suggestions?

Hi there ,

If the engine is using oil through the valves, this will be the stem seals and also it may have worn guides, there is no quick fix for this, the head will have to be removed to fix this correctly.
