Does the belt have an automatic tensioner? is it tight? is it the correct length belt? check for worn pulley bearings, often it is a misaligned pulley or a pulley running askew due to a badly worn bearing that causes the belts to come off.

What type of Serpentine Belt do I need to buy for my 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S? I've been looking on sites like Autozone.com, etc.

Thanks!

There is only one type that will work. When you go to get it, they will need the year, model, engine size, and if it has AC.

Shakes or Wobbles problem
2005 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 91000 miles

I wanted to know what causes the serpentine belt to shake or wobble when the a/c is turned on when the car is drive or reverse at low rpm's and at higher rpm's goes away?

Three things come to mind.

1. Faulty harmonic balancer
2. Bad passenger side engine mount
3. Serpentine belt too loose.

Warranty problem
1997 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Automatic 160000 miles

One of my parents as agreed to get me a car. My step-parent on the other side believes Im being given a cheap piece of junk. The pictures look good, no exterior damage, also its getting a new serpentine belt, alternater, valve cover and alarm system before I recieve it. However it has 160,000 miles. My step-parents argument is that a car with that many miles is going to constantly break down, is that true? Or am I getting a deceant car?

Without knowing the history of the car that is really hard to answer. The best thing to do is get a vehicle history report for the car. If there are ANY faults with it (previous wrecks, odometer fraud etc...) then stay away from buying it. If the history report is good then have a local repair shop do a small check on the car. If no major faults are found then go for it. If faults are found that require pricey repairs than find another car to buy.
