Hello

The service code P1126 on your Nissan indicates a faulty thermostat, not a relay of any kind..

If you would like to test your thermostat before replacing it, perform the following operations.

Get a pot of water heating on a stove, suspend the thermostat in the water by tying it to something that can hang across the top of the pot with some ordinary string, use a thermometer (one that can at least stand the boiling point of water which is 212 degrees farenheit). Put the thermometer in the water along with the setup and watch the temperature. At around 190 degrees, the thermostat should open up indicating that it operates normally. If not, then it is defective, or it is rated to open at a different temperature. There is usually a stamp or engravement at the butt of the thermostat that shows its temperature rating.

If the tets proves the thermostat is working properly, replace the defective engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

Hope this helps..

I got the advice that this code was not even in the mechanics software. I have a Haynes manual on the car and the code p1126 is in the manual showing that it relates to the throttle control motor relay being open, the same info that was given to me at the parts store. I also recieved advice from a 2nd mechanic that says that the code refers to the thermostat and advised that I test my thermostat. My manual says that the code for the thermostat is p0128. Who should I believe? I now have absolutely no idea of which way to turn. And I paid for this. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

Hello Thanks for the donation. Jack (the mechanic that didn't see it in the software) may have just overlooked the information, because we share the same software. However, I was unable to find any information about the relay you mentioned as well. I do not believe the Haynes manual is accurate with this specific code for your vehicle... Below is more detailed information about your trouble code.
