Random misfire normally will be caused by vacuum leak or bad fuel.

Misfires can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

so where do you think i should start?

Start with the EGR exhaust gas recirculating valve-open it up and inspect for carbon to include its passages thru the manifold.

k. what i see looks like 2 egr valves ontop of engine. i know that it looks like a spaceship and there is two of them. yea im only ASE certified in brakes and steering and suspension so not helpful. what u mean by open it up, take off or just use scan tool?

Find it and remove it and inspect for carbon on it and the passages. could be that its not closing creating vacuum leak.

ok but that could cause it to throw both of those codes? cuz its a knock sensor malfunction, not low circuit or anything

The knock sensor's job is to retard the ignition timing when engine is pinging/detonating-

Hit the EGR 1st for the P0300 and follow with the KS.

What type of fuel are u using-

actually its my friends girlfriends car. most likely 85, its a girl.. i know there is a tsb about the KS going bad on those so i pulled a plug today and they were ok, so i just figured replace the KS and tune up, and maybe fuel filter. but i figured if it was the EGR it would throw a code if it was that bad.

My friend the EGR can give a tech the crooked winding curveball that a scantool won't even pick-up they don't always pop up-I called it a magic valve with a head spinner.

k well ill check that. also i read about bad intake man. gaskets going bad on those too so maybe thats something to look into after the egr issue?
