Hi, recently our altima started making a kind of screeching noise (a noise I've heard before when the belts needed changing, however I was told the belts are fine). Now I am hearing a knocking when the car is idling. This morning as I was driving the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The check engine light is on and when the steering wheel started acting up the battery light and the brake light started coming on with every turn. I checked the power steering fluid and all other fluids and they are fine. The car just received a tune up two weeks ago at which they couldn't figure out what was causing the screeching sound. Can you help me figure out what might be wrong?

Definitly sounds like a drive belt problem if the charge light is on, and the p/s works intermittently.Might need to find a shop that is willing to take the time to figure it out, could be a balancer that is coming loose or has stripped the key way, it is something to do with the drive belt though

Hi Jack, thank you for responding. How costly are those type of repairs?

I really couldnt give you any kind of estimate without knowing what is wrong. could be major or something minor like a tensioner bearing
