Engine Cooling problem

The first 15 miles this car is driven temperature gauge is in the perfect range, outside temperature does not seem to have any effect. After approximately 15-18 miles the temp gauge rises fairly
rapidly,until nearly in the hot zone. Heats up more quickly if traveling up hill. Solutions?
