My car will start and the engine doesn't seem to have any problems. However when I try to shift into gear it slides into gear, but it is not catching. It did this suddenly so I don't think it would be the clutch. I can hear it slide into gear, but when I release the clutch and press the gas it doesn't go anywhere. When I do this the speedometer does go up though. Manual tranny.

Any noises before this happened like loud klicking etc. ? The speedo working means trasnaxle is moving so the cause must be a CV joint total trashed check it out.
Hope this helps

240sx is rear wheel drive, there is no cv joints to go bad. Just take your car off the jack stands (LOL). Let someone look under the car as you try to slowly let out on the clutch. Please don't run over your helper.See if the drive shaft turns if it does then it's a differential problem if not then it's tranny or maybe your clutch if your looking at the wrong gauge moving. Rpm 's read motor revolutions (revolution's per minute) and mph means drive shafts spining. Good luck. If this doesn't help then bring it to your local non-cyber mechanic.

Hi all,

Just here to make some comments.

240 sx is rear wheel drive but is not a rigid type axle.
It uses a hanging differential with a left and right CV shaft so there are CV joints to go bad, except not in front, but at the rear.
